A Team Game
Parent Responsibility
Please leave the coaching to the coaches.  I’ve heard some feed back from parents frustrated with their child’s performance in the pool either at practice or games.  Lions runs a skill development league and coaches are very aware of that skill level in their own pool. Lions have a strong group of coaches this season, and we trust their ability in being able to bring out the best in each player. Allow coaches to be the driving force at practices and games and sit back and enjoy the social side of water polo.  Be positive, even if players have not had the best game or practice that week. This is a team sport and coaching your child from the side lines defeats the energy of the coaches on deck.   It’s only a game.   If you have serious concerns regarding practices, schedules, behaviour etc, please feel free to contact any of the executive regarding these issues.

A Head Coach’s Reflections by Shane Pope

We have recently seen the finish of our 2008 season and once again the Coquitlam Lions were a dominant force within the league.  Not only with our competitive play but also our lead by example sportsmanship both in and out of the water. We as a club are very proud of our Athletes, Coaches, Volunteers, Executive and Parents whom without the club would not be what it is today.

I have been with the club for many years which is longer than anyone else currently involved with the club.  I am aware of the club’s full and rich history from before I arrived and am proud to be a part of its current history. Over the years I have seen hundred of changes and fluctuations with the club, here are just a few.  I have seen the club grow and decline from just 5 teams to a peak of 11 (which made us the largest water polo club in the country at the time). I have seen the sport cleaned up and culture of sportsmanship embraced throught out the league which has allowed the level of play rise to new heights.

As we head into the 2008 season we face a new set of changes.  We are looking to attract parents to join the Lions community and help us turn the Lions back into the 11 team powerhouse it once was.
